Intent: To highlight that restoring the overall competitiveness of the agri-food sector must be a central component of the next Government's term. Ireland's dominance in external agri-food trade relative to our size is a testament to the hard work, dedication and quality of produce from Irish farms. Farmers today are operating in a very high-cost economy relative to international competitors.::That labour costs, energy prices, and our dependence on imports of fertiliser and animal feed due to a lack of national self-sufficiency expose us to more volatility and uncertainty than others. IFA analysis shows that average production costs on Irish farms have increased by close to 75% in recent years, with two in three farms now earning below the national minimum wage.::That,over the lifetime of the next Government, decisions will be made which will have huge implications for Irish farmers. IFA has identified the following key priority issues for farming and rural Ireland in the new Programme for Gov

Intent: To highlight that despite the political desire on behalf of the EU community to foster strong trading relationships with South America, this cannot be done at the cost of the Irish farm family sector, the Irish consumer, or the Irish economy. there are significant issues regarding standards and traceability and the issues of transport emissions.::To reiterate the Irish farmers objection to the Mercosur deal. From recent bilateral engagement between the European Commission and Mercosur representatives, in addition to subsequent media commentary reflecting a clear desire to progress to a conclusion.::It is felt by Irish farmers that our concerns are being minimised at the behest of an expedient resolution to the political agreement reached 5 years ago. Intent: To highlight the devastating impact that Storm Éowyn has had on many IFA members across the country. Thousands of farmers across the country have been battling and dealing with the aftermath of last week's winds, and the unforeseen additional costs that it will bring. Significant damage to farm buildings, infrastructure, fencing, forestry and/or horticulture crops and livestock unfortunately is all too familiar.::This is the second major weather event of 2025 with many farmers similarly impacted, although less in number, following unprecedented snowfall at the start of January.::To encourage the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine to give serious consideration to the following recommendations to mitigate the impact of Storm Éowyn and more fully demonstrate solidarity and support for impacted farmers::• Put in place an Emergency Hardship Fund. Intent: To highlight that the farmers in the Agri-Climate Rural Environment Scheme (ACRES) Co-Operation, based on information to hand, that close on one in four ACRES participants, or c. 14,000 farmers, are still waiting on their advance 2024 ACRES payments, with hundreds having only received interim payments in February/March last year.::To emphasise that communication/direct engagement from the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine with impacted farmers has been very unsatisfactory, with numerous commitments not delivered on. Urgent action is now required.::To propose that the IT issues and scheme complexity that are responsible for these delays must be resolved as a matter of priority. Anything less is a failure on the part of the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine.::To propose that strong consideration should be given to the provision of interim payments, similar to last year, for impacted farmers.::To suggest that the IFA suggested improvements, provided through the A

Intent: To highlight the impact Storm Éowyn is having on farm families. Many rural households remain without power and water, creating significant challenges for daily life and farm operations.::To highlight the loss of power and water has disrupted farming activities and left many households struggling to manage basic needs. This is particularly hard on families with young children and elderly members. To also urge everyone in rural areas to check in on their neighbours to ensure they are safe and have support during this challenging time. 'A simple call or visit could make a huge difference, especially for vulnerable households::To call on local authorities and service providers to prioritise restoring essential services as quickly and efficiently as possible.
